Blog Tour: My Demonic Ghost: The Reapers by Jacinta Maree

I am very honoured to be hosting not one but two stops for the Staccato Publishing Autumn Family Lineup blog tours! First of all, we have Jacinta Maree's new release: The Reapers - the second instalment of her My Demonic Ghost paranormal series!
The day you die is meant to be the end, but for 18 year old Jordon Hastings, his death was only the beginning.
In a dark and twisted world, lost spirits known as Reapers remain behind after death to help collect the spirits from the realm of the living. A new Reaper, Jordon struggles to accept his fate and lingers in the shadows of his mortal life. But when a demon wolf starts to live through his shadow, hunting his family and friends, Jordon has no choice but to leave. As soon as he accepts his new role the truth behind the relationship between Reapers and Angelic Hunters is revealed. His loyalty is tested, making him choose between a corrupted God and a single Banished Spirit.

5 / 5 STARS
What can I say other than this is a brilliant story? The incredibly rich world Maree introduced us to in book 1 shoots into an even greater realm of existence with the Reapers. This is a book packed with great descriptions, utterly believable characters, and a driving atmosphere that really packs a punch.

As soon as I picked it up, I was hooked. The first page threw me headfirst into a completely engaging story, with a great new protagonist in Jordon. Having him as a narrator this time is a refreshing new voice to the series, and he brings to life a side of the twisted supernatural world which couldn’t really be explored in as much detail before. He is a sympathetic character who is very caring and yet humorous, and I found myself really rooting for him, especially in matters concerning his half-brother Evan.

Despite the influx of new characters though, it was great to see some familiar faces from the first My Demonic Ghost book showing up, such as Gargoyle, a couple of the Seven Deadly Sins, Betrayal, and my personal favourite, Lock. The Reapers works well with Banished Spirits; for the first half or so, it acts almost as a prequel before beginning to directly run alongside the plotline of its predecessor. But Maree has achieved that harder-than-it-seems effect of telling a story which isn’t the first instalment of its series, but yet can still stand on its own. The Reapers is such a full story in itself; even as someone who has read Banished Spirits, I knew as I was reading it that I could have easily picked up this book first with no knowledge of its predecessor, and not have gotten lost. And for those who have read the first book, this one offers a fresh new angle on events from Banished Spirits that couldn’t have been explored through the eyes of Rachael.

This is a really clever and well thought-out story. Even if you’re yet to read My Demonic Ghost: Banished Spirits, check this one out. And then go straight back and get book 1! I guarantee this is one paranormal series that cannot disappoint!
Self-confessed chocaholic, Jacinta was born and raised in Melbourne Australia with her loving family of five. Even as a child Jacinta had an itch to write. Writing was the one constant hobby she clung to, also trying her hand at piano, flute, tennis, horseback riding and drama.
Jacinta works full time in the family business and spends her afternoons either playing basketball, reading, writing or hanging out with friends. She is always happy to try something new; getting her real estate license, practising ninjitshu, Zumba and parkour to name a few.
For her future, Jacinta sees herself writing. It is a large part of her identity and something she hopes to continue. Aside from her love of stories she loves Japan and its unique and beautiful culture and history. From their delicious sushi dishes right down to their wooden sandals and kimonos. She is also a huge cat person and loves to snuggle up in front of the fire for a good movie or book. Her favourite genres are paranormal and fantasy but she also loves anything written by thriller writer, Stephen King.
